Irony when one realises Supernatural/Naagin/Daayan genres were better than current pandemic of Bengali show remakes.

The period of 2016-2020 was the era when plethora of Supernatural shows used to air on every GEC. With ‘Naagin’, the shows with surreal themes got started about daayans, chudails, brahmarakshas and looking at the current lot of shows, they felt more entertaining and less toxic (even though illogical with shabby VFX). In current scenario, when the most popular channel of India has almost every show re-made straight from Bengoli popular shows, the toxicity and hypocrisy of the story premise seem to have increased. It’s concerning to see the country has all the top shows being a Bengali remake (Anupama, Advocate Anjali Awasthi, GHKKPM, Jhanak) from the TRP charts and writers such as Leena continue to exploit the national ITV genre with their regressive afternoon slot Bengali storytelling. At the end, I am hopeful that the country has survived Ekta Kapoor’s terrible shows (still current lot of Kumkum Bhagya, Bhagya Lakshmi, Pareeniti remaining) and will overcome the pandemic of shows too.
