Mixed feelings - chanced upon IPKKND EBP on YouTube
Good old memories of rushing back home from school to finish homework and then watch Astha and Shlok in the early evening around 6 or 6:30 pm back in 2013 😍♥️ Peak teenage fantasy then, and Deja Vu now looking at these clips posted on YouTube by Star Plus. However, I also now realize how misogynistic the show was. 😭 Shlok was abusive, toxic and honestly an asshole, and he didn't even have a proper redemption arc if I recall right. 😤 Astha was honestly a pushover, "blind" in love, and self righteous. 🙄 Though I recall she stood up against Shlok when his father's reality came to light. The funny thing is the show had a larger theme of highlighting domestic violence issues faced by women (Shlok's mother and sister specifically), but still romanticized Shlok's toxic behaviour and misogyny. 😑 It's been more than 11 years and I guess this is what growing up does -- realising that your once "dreamy" shows actually had a lot of misleading themes and a messed up world being presented to the audience. Mixed feelings now because as much as I want to, I don't think I can rewatch and enjoy the nostalgia, given all the misogyny and toxicity. Thankful for now having the ability to recognize what's problematic with these shows. But the memories of those good old days will remain.4
