Hip Hip Hurray Review
I just finished watching *Hip Hip Hurray* (only 80 episodes, so it wasn’t too hard to finish within 10 days), and I can’t even explain how attached I got to this show. Thanks to the user who posted a clip from the show roasting "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai", that I decided to watch this show. This show was incredibly progressive and touched on so many social issues, such as mental health, drug addiction, child labor, eating disorders, interfaith love and friendships, side effects of internet, pregnancy before marriage, sex education, among others. Lol, they even roasted the scene from "Hum Dil De Chuke Hai Sanam" where Salman kisses Aishwarya, and she thinks she’ll get pregnant from it. The show also portrayed very friendly and understanding teachers like Vinny Sir and Alaknanda Ma’am. And the friends’ gang? They were sooo cool, man! Each of them had their flaws and insecurities, but deep down, they all deeply cared for one another. Sure, the show had some loopholes, but overall, it’s an amazing series. I really wish we had shows like this today. Here are some flaws of the show: 1. **Constant body-shaming of Mehul:** Mehul, who was slightly heavier compared to the others, was often body-shamed. If this hadn’t been part of the show, it would have been nearly perfect. 2. **Inconsistent timelines:** * The show starts with the characters entering Grade 12, emphasizing the need to prepare for board exams from the beginning. In CBSE schools, the academic year begins around April. However, by the 25th episode, they are celebrating Holi (which usually happens in March). * The episode on board exams doesn’t make much sense either, as they are shown taking the exams in their own school, proctored by their own teachers. This is highly unlikely for centralized exams like CBSE board exams. 3. **Disappearance of characters:** Except for the first episode, at least two or three characters were missing in every subsequent episode. My guess is that the actors had other commitments, which led to their absence. Still, the episodes often felt incomplete without all the characters. Especially Meera and Alisha were missing in a lot of episodes. Despite the flaws, each character brought something unique to the table. My personal favorites were Mazhar and Cyrus. Mazhar was an absolute sweetheart and super hard-working, while Cyrus was hilarious, always making everyone laugh yet extremely compassionate. I have three favorite episodes: 1. The one where they organize a show with mentally disabled children. 2. The episode that touches on the topic of sex (the way it was portrayed was truly amazing, and Nonie and Mazhar were so cute in it!). 3. The episode where Alisha and Rafey patch up. Who were your favorite characters, and what are your favorite episodes from the show? P.S. I found that Ekta produced a remake of this show a few years back called "Class of 2017". Has anyone watched that?4
