Is prestige more important than anything else for Indian parents?

I decided to go for higher studies.But my visa was rejected twice, we are from a state where going to U.S for attending higher studies has become a fad. people take huge loans and end up working 12 hours a day illegally to pay off the loans all the while not gaining any skills or network. some do work hard and land great jobs in U.S with 1cr+ package. Right now my mother stops talking to me for at least 2 days whenever she hears news of some neighbour's or acquaintance's children travelling to USA. she sometimes has these outbursts during which she blames me for not being talented enough to clear a visa interview. I understand the disappointment. But my mother's anger and outbursts come from the fact that people around us went abroad some 8-10 years ago and are earning 1-2cr per annum right now. This comparison is wrong and every individual has their own struggles and journey. my mental health hit all time low. This is not something new, She has been blaming my father since I could remember for his low income. Irony is my mother never earned a penny in her life. Now I understood students commit suicide because of parent's expectations and their inability to support child at times of hardship. Is prestige more important than being a good mother or partner?
