Maha Shivratri for a newcomer in Hinduism

Hello everyone, maybe some of you remember me: i am that Italian who opened a post a few days ago in this subreddit asking about Hinduism. I feel a strong spiritual need to get closer to this religion but, in that topic, I explained that I am very inexperienced: in Italy Hinduism is almost unknown and I have difficulties to get in touch with a local community or a guru I wanted to ask you: on the occasion of Maha Shivratri which mantra is most appropriate to recite ? Could you provide me with some links where I can hear it recited well to avoid mistakes ? Which texts would be most appropriate to read ? What can an inexperienced stand-alone practitioner do to honor this occasion ? Is there anything important I should know About it (any information is fine) ?
