Is this shloka actually fake?

I recently came across a post telling me that this shloka is actually fake. "Ahimsa Paramodharma dharma himsa tathaivacha" So please people of this subreddit explain to me as well as clear the fact does this indicate that Hindus should follow absolute non-violence like Gandhi had suggested?
