How does Moksh work?

I'm born and raised as a Hindu but I've only recently started taking interest in Hinduism/Sanatan Dharm. Maybe because people mix it with politics a lot but that's not the point. I'm interested now and I would ask my mother if she wasn't sleeping lol How does someone gain moksh. I know about the karmic cycle and rebirths. But what is moksh? Do I become one with the gods? What happens to my soul? If you're at it, please explain it like I'm a 6 year old. I love being Hindu and all our festivals but I've never asked questions about them so I want to start now. I don't want to be someone who's ashamed of her culture and roots. I feel kind of bad abt myself for not knowing this basic concept
