A question for And from foreign perspective....
Let's say a certain individual from a foreign land with his/her own traditions accepts dharma and starts following Hinduism. The words and scriptures can be translated with ease to his/her language. While everyone would also agree that sanskrit learning could help not just him but all of us. Though I am confused about cultural practices. A lot of our practices are derivative of sect difference, culture and regional mythology and folklore ...which causes groups to have their own unique identity. Even the satvic traditions have their own cultural differences in diet and stuff. So if a person wants to follow the faith but not become Indian per say in culture and tradition. How does he do that? Like Bali, Southeast Asia, Japan for centuries has their own unique identity separate from Indian Hindusim. So does our own states have separate identity. But for a newcomer whose culture was never exposed to ours. How and what should he accept and what can he reject? The Vedas and Upanishads are Shruti text. So he would have to follow those customs but can he change certain elements of it like the offerings and dresses....? How does one deal with retaining their culture but also blending it with Hinduism cuz the major problem seems to be that. Our religion while advocating for spread of Dharma for everyone has become too Indian. While that may not be a concern... Some of the followers on internet tend to be hostile to a lot of changes or difference in practices.3
