The Cab Ride That Restored My Faith in Good Vibes
Previous post: https://www.reddit.com/r/gurgaon/s/OWlIRnnoKy I had a bad experience right after I did a good deed. My general assumption that treating everyone well would mean being treated the same way backfired, and it hurt my ego. I shared the experience, and many rightfully called out my naivety but a lot of people started directing their anger towards the city and cab drivers. This did not sit right with me because I’ve had a lot of good experiences with the city and cab rides that I never highlighted. So, in the spirit of the festive season and spreading positive vibes, here’s one of the most wholesome experiences I had in a cab in Delhi NCR. My friends and I went for a night out at a pub in Sector 29 in Gurgaon. At the pub, a lot of music was played, mostly punjabi and hariyanvi maybe even Diljit’s songs, but since I wasn’t familiar, I didn’t realize. I don’t listen to Punjabi music much, but I knew about Diljit Dosanjh. I hadn’t heard many of his tracks, but the song Naina from the movie Crew was trending at the time, and I had heard it—it was catchy. And we grooved every time Naina (or remix/revisit/ft some artist) was played. Anyway, the night ended with all of us drunk out of our minds, and we booked a cab to head home. The cab radio was playing songs and halfway through the ride, Naina came on. We were sitting in the back, bobbing our heads and vibing to the song. Then I noticed the driver was also vibing and lip-syncing to it. When the song ended, all of us were visibly sad. At that moment, the driver handed me his phone and said, “Aap lagao woh gana.” I was instantly delighted, took his phone, typed the song into YouTube and clicked play. The next thing I knew, all of us—driver included—were singing the song out loud, screaming the hook at the top of our lungs. When stoped at a signal all of us were looking at each other and giggling like we had known each other for ages. From the outside, it must’ve looked like a bunch of friends driving home after a wild night. Our destination came up before the song ended, but the driver insisted, “Pura sunke jao.” So we stayed in the cab until the song finished and even went for another round, letting Naina play to the end. That song was stuck in our heads the entire night. We thanked him a lot, gave him a wholehearted five-star review and even left a glowing comment. Before he left, he recommended a few other tracks by Diljit. Among them was Lover, which I ended up loving. Now, whenever I hear Diljit’s songs, this memory comes to mind. PS: As an update on the previous post, I have received Rs. 300 credited to my wallet. Thank you for all the kind words, and a special thanks to those who rightfully pointed out my naivety. I shall be careful in the future.3
