Need Career Advice: CFA Charterholder with 5 Years in Tax Valuations Seeking Higher Paying Role in Finance Industry
Hi everyone, I’m seeking advice on navigating a career change within the finance industry in India. Here’s my background: • I have 5 years of experience in tax valuations (DCF, Purchase price allocation, impairment, OPM, ESOP), including a stint at a Big 4 firm. • I’m a CFA charterholder, but unfortunately, the designation hasn’t significantly boosted my career prospects in India so far. • Currently earning ~25 LPA, but I’m aiming for a much higher pay scale. • I’m not interested in equity research roles and would like to explore other opportunities. Some career paths I frequently come across on LinkedIn include: • Investment Banking: Roles in M&A advisory, deal structuring, and financial modeling. • Private Equity / Venture Capital: Focused on valuations, due diligence, and portfolio management. • Corporate Finance (FP&A, Strategy, Treasury): Budgeting and performance analysis • FinTech Roles: Combining finance expertise with innovative business models. While these seem promising, I’m unsure about which path offers the best combination of growth and compensation in the Indian market, given my experience in valuations. I’d love to hear from people with experience in these or related fields: 1. What roles or industries should I target for the best pay and career growth? 2. Are there any certifications, skills, or strategies that could improve my chances? 3. How can I best leverage my CFA and valuations background to stand out in a competitive market? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!5
