BlinkIt and Zepto: Individual Service or Infrastructure Curtain?
Background: I am a Product and Services Designer working in the UK for over 3 years and have recently come back home (Golf Course Extension) to see Gurgaon progress since I last saw it, albiet with concrete as far as the eye can see. I often witness citizens and my parents complain about the lack of infrastructure and after seeing the same in UK it holds no comparison on how little investment is being done on developing public services. Which begs the question: Are services like BlinkIt and Zepto masking the problem of poor infrastructure by making home delivery affordable to a point where citizens might be getting comfortable with an absence of urban planning and an absence of basic facilities like pavements and public transport? Do you believe this raises the chances of breeding a generation that increases the already sedentary nature of most jobs and prevents one from getting the additional 1000 steps in? An additional question. Do you think well kept buses, good quality pavements and well lit streets will increase your motivation to choose public transport to your workspaces and leisure, thereby reducing traffic on the streets and doing your bit to reduce the pollution problem that seems to plague this region every year?3
