How does Gujarat manage to stay conservative/traditional despite progress and urbanization? Genuine question from a non Gujarati.
I have always wondered how Gujarat remained conservative/traditional. It has always been an anomaly for me(in a good way). I believe civilizations are cyclical in nature. Bad times -> progress & good times -> indulgence & decadence -> bad times. From what I observed progress and urbanization has almost always lead to decline of conservative/traditional values. But I don't think thats the case with Gujarat (another possible exception could be Kerala). I can understand for Rajasthan (no offense meant..I actually like it, its in to-do list of places to visit), but Gujarat!? How is Gujarat able to remain conservative in spite of progress, urbanization and inevitable western influences? Even in reddit!!!(thats an impossible feat to pull off). A word of caution, guard this sub with everything. For the unaware, reddit is incredibly leftist/liberal and has the habit of infesting everything in it. This is really a genuine question. By conservative I don't just mean things like alcohol ban but also aspects like culture, roots, social norms, etc.1
