My fellow society members are trying to force me to pay my maid less

Ok, so I won't reveal where I live in Delhi, but it is an Ok level society and what I thought consisted of good people. So I shifted here a couple of months ago, and hired a maid. My whole childhood I have never liked the pennies that was paid to my houshelp especially considering her age and the work she put in. Now that I am earning I decided to pay the house help what they should be paid fairly. I am not a rich AF guy, heck I ain't even rich but I would rather pay someone fairly and live a little poorer than to pay someone less( me being single helps allot ngl). So I am currently paying my maid arround 12k a month, that includes cooking, jhadu pocha and dishwashing. I have provided her with a good wiper that does allot of heavy lifting and a vacuum cleaner. Now apparently the other maids have gotten to know about it, and starting asking for raise from there employers. Yesterday in our "society meeting" allot of people were furious that I was "spoiling" the maid because I am rich, which I am not but they think I am (guess that is good, I hope some single ladies start believing that aswell lmao) and have asked me to either lower her payment or fire her. I said that she makes amazing food and her work is top notch, always on time and nothing is gone missing ever since she has come, so I trust her. Why the hell should I fire her? And I also said that I will not pay her less, and whenever I get a salary bump SO WILL HER! what are you gonna do about it?? This I guess angered allot of people and the meeting was adjourned due to too much chaos. Just to clarify for all the p*rn addicts out here, I am in my 20s and my maid in easily in her mind 40s, I am not doing this out of lust or anything. Any advice would be great as to how to tackle it. I am afraid that they don't start badmouthing the owner, or worse start harrassing me.
