The Linguistic Survey of India (1891 Census) provides a valuable insight into the linguistic landscape of the Delhi region prior to the extensive urbanization and standardization of Hindi. Among the communities affected by these linguistic shifts, the Natives of Delhi, Gujjars experienced a gradual erosion of their linguistic identity. This transformation was driven by urban migration and socio-political pressures, which compelled them to adopt more widely spoken languages, leading to the marginalization of their native linguistic traditions.
