Gundas beating up kids in Dhanalakshmi engineering college.
My friend’s brother, a student at Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan College of Engineering in Coimbatore, shared a troubling situation. He mentioned that certain individuals, allegedly gang members from Madurai, have been targeting private hostels near the college. These individuals accuse students of possessing Ganja (marijuana) and demand money, often resorting to severe physical violence to intimidate them. Even when they mistakenly enter hostels where no drugs are found, they continue to assault students, particularly targeting Malayali students, and impose fines as a pretext to extort money. In one incident, a student was reportedly beaten with a pressure cooker used for cooking. These gang members have also threatened students, warning them against approaching the police by claiming that any attempt to report them will result in dire consequences, including threats to their lives. Alarmingly, the local community remains indifferent, and the police seem to take no action. The college administration, instead of supporting the innocent students, allegedly suspends them if they become involved in such situations, even when they have done nothing wrong. As a result, these students are living in constant fear. It’s heartbreaking and frustrating—someone needs to step in and put an end to this.5
