Today I taught a deaf kid how to write chess notation.
I was playing in a local chess tournament when I got paired against a deaf kid. After our game, she used sign language to ask if I could teach her how to write chess notation. We had a 40-minute break before the next round, so I did my best to help her. By the end of the break, she had learned to write notations perfectly. She thanked me and gave me a warm smile. I felt really happy knowing I could teach someone with a disability. It might not seem like a big deal to some, but teaching someone who can’t hear or speak is challenging, especially without any formal training. It genuinely made me smile.3
