Legality of 'Auto Stand'

Friends, what's the legality of auto stands? I parked in an open spot on a public road and random auto guy tried to drive me away. I had to convince the guy that i am just picking something up from a nearby shop and won't be long. But he gathers other auto guys and they try to block my car by parking close at the front and back. I mean, they're occupying public road leaving no spot anywhere and the audacity to try and push me away when i try to park on a open spot. The guy was rude but i didn't care and went on to my chore. And i find no space to take my car out when i returned. Had to push one of the empty auto away further and took my car out. I curse these fellows. Hope they rot.
