first time solo travelling.. what are some safe hotels to stay at?

Hey, I'm 18F. I'm planning to travel to chennai in the upcoming months, and I'd preferably like to stay around Sathyabama University. What are some good, not too over the top hotels to stay at? Also - I've heard about some ladies pg offering day stay - is that a good option? Also, budget is preferably nothing more than 2.5k per night. Around 1.5k is optimal.
