Weird rapido experience
I booked a Rapido bike late last night. While we were on the way, the L&O police stopped us for a check. The driver showed his license but didn’t have his insurance on hand. He told the police they could download it, but when asked to show it on his phone, he claimed his phone was switched off. The police then searched his bike (Fascino) and found a bundle of cigarette packs under the seat. He said he had just picked them up from the road, but the police seized them. In the end, they asked him to pay ₹200 and leave. The driver said he didn’t have any cash and asked me to pay instead. The police also suggested I do so. I was hesitant but considered it since I had already spent a lot on myself earlier in the day. However gpay was down so I couldn’t transfer the money. Seeing this the police offered to arrange a vehicle for me to get home. I told them I’d manage on my own and was about to leave when they called me back and let the Rapido driver go. On the way, the driver told me he had actually picked up the cigarettes from the road and was trying to sell them for 2k. Just a bizarre experience overall and clueless why police didn’t check his insurance from their app and asked him to pay. Also why the driver didn’t claim his cigarettes back as he could have said it’s for his personal use.3
