Is Park town open for local trains?

Vanakkam makkale, I'm visiting some friends near Guduvanchery and wanted to ask the people of Chennai for commute suggestions. Quick Google search said I should look for chengalpattu train. 1. I'll be reaching Chennai via Central, around mid day. 2. Is Park town running local trains? Last time I visited Chennai (about 6 months ago), it was closed for maintenance. 3. If Park town is still closed, where is the next nearest station to Central to catch a local train? Thanks in Advance.
