Lifecycle of a loser
I'm at the age where I can see some of my peers who are just not gonna make it. I know a handful of people like these and can't help but notice that they all have some similarities in their trajectories. **Competitive exams** This is not common for all of, but a significant number of them seem to waste *years* of their lives in preparation for government, bank, CAT, UPSC and whatnot only to not have it work out for them. **Failed Business venture** At some point, I see all of them start a business ranging from a small shop to a gym to a manufacturing unit. The best-case scenario was breaking even and the worst-case entailed them going into a huge debt. **Astrology** This is a big one. After a series of failures, they all seem to get into astrology. So much so that they're consumed by the pseudo-science and it ends up being all they can talk about. This aspect is the most interesting to me because I can't see how astrology mollifies someone unable to move forward in life. **Influencer** A significant number of them have tried their hand at the influencer industry, in the form of Instagram, YouTube vlogs, travel and fitness content seems to be their go tos. i suspect a low barrier of entry makes it appealing for someone without much career prospects. **Romantic Dependence** This is another big one. I see many of them only show an alacrity towards life if they're in a relationship and get "suicidal" if they break-up, get dumped or get cheated on. They don't seem to have independent drive for self-improvement or the need to make their parents proud. **Parental enabling** Another big one. They all seem to have parents, primarily mothers who enable their loser antics. Who cook and clean for them well into their old-age and are keen on defending them regardless of their life condition. As I type this, I can't help but draw a connection between an over-loving mother and their constant need of a girlfriend. :/ But anyhow, I'm curious if anyone has noticed any similarities with losers in their lives given that we were all brought up in a similar culture and city. I must add that this post is primarily about men. I'm also curious about the female equivalent of this.2
