Chandigarh to kasauli road??

Me and my friends are planning a road trip to kasauli in the last few days of December. So if anyone can tell how is the road from Chandigarh to Kasauli and would it be easy for someone to drive who does not have enough driving experience on hills? Also is it convenient to go and come on the same day ?? And what would be the traffic situation these days?
