Getting trolled for keeping a distance?

While driving in the city at 40-45kms/hour speed, I keep atleast 40 metres of distance between the car in front... But this always results in other cars honking furiously from behind, and even sometimes even trolling for this driving style... I don't care about what others think so I still drive like this. However it's interesting to think why does everyone in India love to tailgate and penetrate into other car's bumber?
