What's with manufacturers using Piano Glossy Black for their interiors and exteriors?

It’s dust-prone, a fingerprint magnet, and easily scratched. How does the manufacturer expect customers not to be frustrated sooner or later? Surely, cost-cutting isn’t the only reason. What am I missing?
