Dashcam saved me from drama
Ironic title since drama still insued, but it saved me from a big altercation. A woman was driving the car behind the swift. At first I provided the dashcam video to the swift guy in order to help him with insurance and possible remuneration from the car behind because that is the car that failed to keep appropriate braking distance. But at the end both of them started ganging up on me, blaming me for braking and telling me that i should've swerved to the left in order to avoid the car (you can see I have a bike to my left so the only option was to brake), I tried telling them about lane discipline but then came the classic (said by the woman) "mujhe gaadi chalana mat sikhao 10 saal se chalari hu", and the swift guy was a two faced idiot. First he tried asking for money from the lady and then he tried to get me to spill up money for repairs since i seemed "well off". I told him I can help you with claiming insurance, it should be fine since i gave you the video but the idiot didn't even know how insurance works. Then he wanted my license photo and wanted to take matters to the nearest place station. At this point I got angry but held it in, I told him I'm ready for a lawsuit. The lady's dad came, I showed him the video and then the swift guy started asking for money from everyone. At this point a traffic police officer came, saw the video and asked me to leave since it wasn't my fault and my car suffered minimal damage. He told me "inko behesbaazi karne do aap toh niklo". At no point could they stop me from leaving, but i stayed for more than an hour solely because of my responsibility of being somewhat involved. Instead of collectively filing an FIR against the WagonR, both of them wanted me to fork out cash. Out of goodwill, I put forth the condition of paying 50% of both their inital insurance payment for repairs if we collectively file an FIR against the WagonR guy ( we have his license plate). But still they wanted me to pay for full repairs and "ye kya game khel rahe ho aap, itna time kiske paas h". They didn't even have enough mental capacity for calm dialogue, the lady told me "aap itna cool banke itna gyan jhaad rahe ho, mujhe pasand nai aara". Bhalai ka zamana nai raha, I tried to help both of them by providing number plate of the swift, providing dashcam footage so they can claim insurance more effectively, but both of them wanted money from me since "aapki galti thi aapne left me kyo nai dabai gaadi, brake nai lagate" and "aap acche khaandaan ke lagte ho, thode dene me kya jaata h". The incident concluded with me driving off while the swift guy, the lady and the lady's father were arguing. They didn't try to stop me since the traffic police officer asked me to leave. I feel disgusted by the general public that drives in India. If something like this happens again I'll just leave the notion of being a good samaritan in the gutter and be equally as rude and entitled. Sorry for the rant but this was an eye opening experience for me.4
