Haider is what Rockstar fans think rockstar is.
I have watched both of em few years back and they have stucked in my psyche ever since. This two films and their subject are entirely different but this is about reception they receive from the fans. My personal opinion: To complete Shakespeare's trilogy of Bharadwaj I watched Haider. I was blown away . Film exceeded my expectations, it was a cinematic journey. Like most movies its 1st half is much better while 2nd kinda deviates from the path but sticks to the story and music is exemplary. Shahid gives an all time performance , perhaps the best by commercial lead in last decade, an political commentary on Kashmir, a haunting music and also Freud is there. Omkara in adaptation was the best , maqbool excels in performances but as a cinema, Haider triumphs atleast for me. Its hard to imagine this movie in current climate. Rockstar was on my watchlist for long time. I watched it with 1 expectation and that was an journey of an artist but it turned out to be a love story as I said its first half is brilliant but I dislike its second half. Only if its 2nd half focused on Jordan's artistic journey instead of his relationship with Heer the product could have been different but it would have same fate as Haider as it won't be romanticized as love scions of Indian youth. These youth who are cinephile loves to watch Rockstar and praise it but to the extent to call whole movie as masterpiece is a hyperbole. Ranbir's performance was a peak, ARR's music and Mohits vice Chery on the top, but Imtiaz fails with story imo but yeah he wanted to make love story so I can't deal with it. As a redditor once pointed out his movie has very scenes which gives intense feelings but majority part of the movie is mellowed down.4
