Confusing incident in church street

We were a group of 4 ppl, 2M 2F, waiting for our cab around 10pm in church street, near Brik oven. A random person walks up to us and shows this attached pic (Shakti Kapoors pic from raja babu movie), and asks where can I find a similar looking statue. We politely said we don’t know. He became little pushy and told us to look carefully at that pic, we told him we don’t know. Then started telling us that he’s searching it for his friend and we should help him. He then started asking our names, we told wrong names obviously. He then started making a very random conversation, your smile is good, you ppl should date, I want to show your pic to my gf.. He was constantly getting calls on his phone, so he asked us to wait and moved aside to talk and we left that place. Thankfully he didn’t follow us but this whole situation left us very confusing, we’re not able to figure out his intentions. For a moment I thought he was trying to hypnotise us when he asked us to look carefully at the pic, and we suddenly looked away. We thought it might be some prant video but we couldn’t find any cameras nearby too. Trust me, he was fully sober! Has anyone else also experienced something similar in blr or in church street, or can anyone else understand what happened here?
