Moving to Marathahalli - Need Advice on Chinnapanahalli vs. AECS Layout (Water Situation!)

Hey r/bangalore! **TLDR;** Moving to Marathahalli (near Kalamandir) for work. Considering renting in Chinnapanahalli or AECS Layout to avoid bad traffic on Chinnapanahalli Main Road. Chinnapanahalli landlords claim reliable Kaveri water, no tankers needed. AECS Layout has Kaveri but mentions potential tanker use and costs. Need advice on water reliability in both areas, traffic, and overall which is better, and if I am missing to consider any area? **Main Post:** I recently landed a job with an office in Marathahalli (near Kalamandir) and I'm starting the hunt for a place to rent. I've been focusing on areas close enough for a comfortable commute, and that's led me to a bit of a dilemma. Originally, I was looking at Marathahalli (behind KLM), Kadubeesanhalli, and Munnekollal. However, the commute on Chinnapanahalli Main Road seems like a nightmare - narrow, congested, and generally not great. So, I've narrowed it down to either **Chinnapanahalli** or **AECS Layout**, as these areas would allow me to mostly bypass that road. **Here's where I'd love some advice, especially regarding the water situation:** * **Chinnapanahalli:** I've found a few promising places here, and every landlord I've spoken to has emphasized a reliable Kaveri water supply and no tanker issues. This is a big plus for me as I'm new to Bangalore and the whole tanker situation is a bit unfamiliar. Also 3kms to metro, not sure if cabs get booked here though. * **AECS Layout:** This area is definitely appealing for its planned layout and general ambiance. However, the cost of rent is noticeably higher. More importantly, all the landlords here have mentioned tanker costs and responsibilities, even though they also have Kaveri water. This is raising a red flag for me, especially since I'd prefer to avoid the hassle and expense of relying on tankers if possible. * Any other area which I missed to consider? **My Questions:** * **Water reliability in Chinnapanahalli:** For those who live (or have lived) in Chinnapanahalli, is the Kaveri water supply truly as reliable as the landlords are claiming? Are tankers genuinely rare, or is this just an optimistic view? How was the situation here during the summer water crisis this year? * **Water situation in AECS Layout:** Is the tanker dependence in AECS as common as it seems? If you live there, can you give me a realistic idea of how often you need to order tankers and the associated costs? While there is such a lake present in this layout, no one seems to have a borewell, why is it so? * **Commute impact:** While both locations avoid the worst of Chinnapanahalli Main Road, are there any hidden traffic challenges or better routes that might sway me? * **Overall thoughts:** Given my priorities (walking distance to office, avoiding tanker hassles if possible, reasonable rent), which area would you recommend? Am I missing anything? I understand that these are generalisations and things can vary from building to building but any insights into the area in general would be really helpful! Thanks in advance for any help you can offer! I'm really excited to move to Bangalore, but a little overwhelmed with the housing search!
