PSA: Be Aware of Scam Calls Claiming to Be Cyber Police – My Girlfriend Lost 5k!
I wanted to share a recent incident to warn everyone about a scam targeting vulnerable individuals. My girlfriend, who is from Mysore, got a call claiming to be from the "cyber police." They told her that her ID was being misused for illegal activities and that she should not inform her family. They even mentioned a false connection to a rape case in Kolkata, saying that a girl was assaulted because she didn’t send money. This tactic was clearly meant to frighten her into compliance. They demanded 20k as "bail" and convinced her to share her screen so they could monitor her actions and ensure she didn’t contact anyone. In her panic, she asked me to send her 20k, which I did, thinking she was in real trouble. Thankfully, she managed to hold off on sending the full amount but still ended up transferring 5k before realizing it was a scam. This experience has been a wake-up call about how manipulative these scammers can be. They prey on fear and urgency to extort money. Please be cautious and share this with your loved ones, especially younger or more impressionable individuals. If anyone receives a similar call, do not panic. Disconnect immediately and report it to the cybercrime portal or your local police. Stay safe, and let’s spread awareness to stop these predators. UPVOTE THIS SO IT REACHES MAXIMUM PEOPLE AND STOP THEM FROM GETTING SCAMMED!!!!1
