Narrow Escape Today
Around 10:30 am-ish, today: My cook helped me in the morning to prepare my tiffin for lunch and breakfast. (Yes, I carry my meals to work) As I was in a hurry in the morning (as usual), I left for work, without inspecting the kitchen. Around 8 pm, I got back home from work. I turned on the light switch to see that one of the gas burners was fully on, without any vessel on it. I immediately turned off the regulating knob. There was no gas smell as such that was lingering in the house. Even if there’d be, I could’ve confused it with some food/other smell. Though nothing happened (thank the good God), this incident has made me realise that even the smallest of mistakes can lead to a major (mis)happening. Made me feel how we take everything, including our lives, for granted. Recently, I’d heard of a family in the neighbourhood that died due to an overnight gas-leakage. Their only fault was to not shut off the gas fully and not realise that the whole night gas had leaked in the whole home. In the morning, when they’d woken up to switch on the light, and the whole house blasted. Please note my current cylinder has been in use since 3 months. So it was very surprising how the full flame was burning throughout the day without no leakage. This really was a very narrow escape.5
