Ethical analysis of the Shakthi Scheme
I am writing a paper for a class in my university on ethics and transportation. I’ve chosen to write on the the import of gender inclusivity during public transport planning. I’m focusing only on the metropolitan cities of India and will be discussing a few case studies. The main one is definitely the Shakthi scheme. I want to talk about it from the perspective of safety, autonomy (promoting freedom of movement) and justice (improving economic opportunities). I would love to get the perspective of the residents on this scheme: why do you think it works and why it doesn’t? PS: I understand the recent debate on freebies and how government is misusing the taxpayers money. I do not want to talk about that. I want to know what can be done to make public transport better and safer for women and other minorities5
