Confused About Karnataka's 30-Day Rule for Out-of-State Vehicles
I recently moved to Bangalore with my two-wheeler (registered in MP). Earlier i didn't knew and was under illusion that we can drive a vehicle in other state for 1 year without any trouble, but recently I came to know about Karnataka's strict 30-day rule for paying road tax and re-registering out-of-state vehicles. I am delaying the registration here since I might move back or move my vehicle back atleast. Do I still need to start the re-registration process or pay road tax? From what I understand, the Central Motor Vehicles Act allows a vehicle to stay in another state for up to 12 months without re-registration, so why is Karnataka enforcing this 30-day rule? Anyone who has been in a similar situation, please help clarify! I’m really frustrated and want to avoid unnecessary hassle.4
