Bangalore-Chennai via Kolar, Chitoor. Can I take new expressway?

Hello, planning to drive from Bangalore to Chennai via Kolar, Chitoor. I read the new Bangalore-Chennai expressway is functional in Karnataka but once the expressway ends can I join the existing highway to Chennai? Or is it better if I just stick to the existing highway from the start? Thanks!
