Why is the crowd suddenly surging for Mahakumbh?

Since the end of January, things have taken a terrible turn. I just saw the news about a stampede at Delhi railway station. A couple I know narrowly escaped death during the Mouni Amavasya stampede. Thank God, after a lot of kalesh, I finally managed to convince my mom not to go there. But why, despite so many claims about management and infrastructure by govt. , reality is so far away. Edit: Don't DM me for explaining the significance of Mahakumbh. I'm not an atheist, but a logical thinker, and I believe life is more important than belief/religion.
