Why do Indians expect India to become developed so quickly?

The Western advanced economies look nice today because they spent HUNDREDS of years of brutal industrialisation where workers slaved in factories with no rights, along with colonial empires to exploit resources. Indian industrialisation and fast growth only really started after 1991 reforms. Given that we had 10% literacy and life expectancy of 30 in the 1950s, I think we have done reasonably well.
