Honestly, Why is the south so conservative about clothing?

I myself am from Andhra Pradesh but grew up in both Andhra and Telangana ( Hyderabad). With an obvious exception of Bangalore, ( probably because of its cosmopolitan atmosphere) literally everywhere, south India is very conservative about clothing. Tamil Nadu is like incredibly extreme when it comes to it. Hyderabad, chennai both the metropolitan cities are very conservative interms of clothing. Again, some small pockets of Western Hyderabad are liberal. Most of the city is not. I've seen women from tier 2/ tier 3 cities in the north like Raipur, bhubaneswar, indore being relatively liberal in terms of clothing. My assumption is, people in the north are very influenced by bollywood and bollywood has always been considerably liberal in terms of depicting romance, sex and clothing as well. Whereas, most south indians have NEVER watched, atleast not enough to be influenced by it. Our movies are all atleast until very recently weren't even showing simple kiss scenes.
