Boyfriend’s career and relationship

My boyfriend (22M) and I (22F) have been dating for about 5 years. He’s in the Army and most of our relationship has been long distance. He’ll be getting commissioned as an Officer soon. We’ve also been discussing marriage and our families are aware of this. We recently had a tough conversation where he was open and frank about the risks he would face in the line of duty but that I’d be looked after. I’ve always admired his passion for the armed forces but really don’t know how to cope with his career. I also feel he’s getting too absorbed in his career. Most of our convos have been revolving about his grueling experiences in the academy with very little is about me or my life. I think I might be coming off as selfish but that’s really not my intent. I’m so proud of him every day and deeply in love but sometimes the future just seems so difficult.
