Are friendships and family relationships still the same as the 90s?

I watched a video in which an Indian man based in Korea said nothing can beat India when it comes to friendships and family relationships because of the simple fact people don't take appointments, friends and relatives are welcome to show up unannounced at your doorstep. Nobody calls, checks etc and plans are made quickly. Most of the comments agreed with him. I am from a metro in the South and nobody shows up at my house unannounced including family members and added to this all my meetups with friends are also scheduled. Everyone is busy with work, raising kids, etc which makes it quite hard to make friends as an adult as well. So I don't see how we are so different from western nations. Is it different in other parts of the country that are not metros/Tier-1 cities?
