Related to Ranveer Allahbadia's case: How do these standup comics often claim that they have taken or used to take drugs or just talk about drugs, isn't that admitting to doing something illegal? How do they get away with saying this?

In this very episode of India's Got Latent, I think when somebody mentioned smoke weed or something, Ranveer said, he doesn't, he used to, but he stopped now. And otherwise as well, I have often seen many comics talk about weed and all openly in their sets. Is it just that nobody has noticed that or is it legal in India or what?
