Why does Indians have such an unhealthy obsession with people in the public eye?

We're absolutely obsessed with even minor public figures, like viral meme personalities, to an extreme degree. For example, I was watching an interview with Glen Maxwell where he talked about the time when he was traveling with Virat and how the crowd aggressively bashed Virat's car to the point that Maxi got scared for his life and Virat was unfazed. This is the kind of pressure public figures like Virat face daily, yet people still criticize him for spending his free time in the UK. And then there’s the recent incident with Monalisa, which I'm sure you're already aware of, I don't want to go into it lol.
