Stopped talking to my Cousin Sisters for filing fake R*pe case

I (25M) stopped talking to my two cousins (25F & 27F) about three years ago. To give some context, I had been tying Rakhi with them since my first Rakshabandhan. I don’t have a sister of my own, so I loved them deeply and considered them my real sisters. In my eyes, there were no other women as beautiful or wonderful as they were, and I truly believed that from my soul. • The Beginning Around five years ago, both of them started dating two guys who were also siblings and also our very distant relatives, which we weren't aware of. Let’s name the sisters Monisha (27F) and Rhea (25F), and the brothers Viru (28M) and Samar (25M). - Monisha was dating Viru. - Rhea was dating Samar. Their mom (my mausi) approved of the relationships because the guys were wealthy (she admitted this to my mom). However, the guys' parents were not supportive; they suspected my cousins were more interested in their money. I met both guys, and they seemed cool—though Viru had a bit of a temper. The relationships lasted for about two years. During this time, the guys showered my cousins with expensive gifts like iPhones, watches, TVs, laptops, and more. My cousins would excitedly show me the gifts, and I was genuinely happy for them. • The Breakups In 2021, things turned sour. Some undisclosed issues arose between Viru and Monisha, and eventually, Viru married someone his mother had chosen. Shortly after, Rhea and Samar also broke up. Neither cousin shared the reasons for their breakups, even though they used to tell me every detail during their relationships. • The Incident In November 2021, my elder brother’s wedding was scheduled for the 30th, and I was busy managing preparations. On the 27th, I got a call from Rhea. She told me, "Didi (Monisha) and Mom are at the police station filing a complaint against Viru." Confused, I asked what had happened. Rhea explained: - Monisha had lent Viru ₹1 lakh before their breakup, and he refused to repay it. - Viru demanded the return of all the gifts he had given Monisha> - An argument broke out when they tried to discuss this, and Viru slapped their mom (my mausi). After the slap, Monisha and my mausi went to the police station to file a complaint. Viru was arrested within an hour and put behind bars. At the police station, heated arguments ensued between Viru’s family and my cousins' family. Viru refused to repay the money unless the expensive gifts were returned. Meanwhile, Monisha claimed to the Police that she had purchased everything herself (which was untrue). Things escalated when Monisha accused Viru of sexual assault and r*pe, claiming he had violated her multiple times during their relationship. The police encouraged her to file additional charges for mental harassment and assault. Eventually, Viru agreed to repay the ₹1 lakh plus additional settlement money to prevent Monisha from filing further charges against him. • The Revelation I learned the full story on November 28th, when both Monisha and Rhea came to stay at my house for my brother’s *haldi* ceremony. They told me everything. Initially, I was furious. I thought Monisha’s allegations were true and I wanted to pick a sword and Behead Viru immediately. I didn't had the guts to ask more details from Monisha, so I decided to instead ask Rhea if it was true, she *winked and smiled* at me and said "it was a fake charge." That moment broke me, I couldn't sleep the whole night. For me, allegations like r*pe are extremely serious. I’ve always believed that anyone who commits such crimes deserves public beheading. But realizing that my cousins had weaponized such a sensitive topic to extort money was devastating. • The Fallout The last time I spoke to Monisha and Rhea was at my brother’s wedding on November 30th, 2021. After that, I cut all contact with them and their mom. They never reached out to ask why, as if I didn’t exist. It’s been three years now. My life is great without them, but once in a while, when I’m alone, I cry. I still love them deeply and wish they’d return to my life. But the thought of how they misused such a sensitive law to extort money keeps me from reaching out. --- I feel guilty for not turning in as a witness and putting my sisters behind the bars. But how can I suddenly turn against someone whom I used to adore and love so much. My soul died that day. I’m not looking for advice, but I’d like to know what you think.
