Why are there adverts on TV for paint and concrete?

Coming from an NRI, whenever I watch Indian TV channels I’m inundated with commercials on concrete and paint, often with celeb endorsements. Would never see such products advertised abroad, much less from celebs. Do Indians purchase such products based on adverts they’ve seen?
