Where did the historically free Indian culture went wrong?

Had to repost as the previous post was taken down due to rules. Not long time ago, the Hindu(by this I mean the entire India) culture was at the heart of the world civilization. We got temples which are hundreds of years old, scriptures which are thousands of years old and a belief system which is probably older to that. Kashi is famously termed as old as time. While historically we have been a liberal society with room for expressing themselves as and how someone wants to. We have scriptures and temples devoted to sex, women were able to roam freely in their semi-naked body, and we were an overall promoters of a free society with space for all genders. We were famous for light dressing. Fast forward to today: many of our men want everyone, not just women, to cover themselves up as much as possible. We have serene beaches full with gawkers trying to find women in short dresses. Rise in moral policing and so many more things. All this while we are breeding like rabbits. Why, Indians?
