My two cents on the ongoing latent saga

Having little to no knowledge about the reach of the show, while having an argument with a friend, I searched for Samay's channel and was left shocked to my core. 40 million views on one of the latent videos! We today are speaking of how the bigger crimes are being brushed under the carpet and how the perpetrators of it roam freely. And then we slyly defend such content and its creators by creating parallels, in the name of humour and freedom. I do not care where it came from and with what intent, but this gutter had to be shut somehow. In the name of dank humour, the young impressionable minds are being affected so devastatingly, which i couldn't have imagined until i heard my adolescent cousin making a joke on childhood abuse. At the most premier educational institution of the country, I have seen people glued to their mobile screens laughing at the jokes, the premise of which many a times is the miseries of unfortunate rape victims, victims of natural disability, victims of accidental disability, victims of child and adolescent abuse and misogyny(evergreen). It is the inability of an average Indian to differentiate between what is humour and what is a genuine expression of internalised ablism, misogyny, sexism and homophobia that surfaces as the ghastly devil. This devil enables these young (even older) keyboard warriors to spew hate on social media, that for the progenitors(Samay and like) was pure humour, but for them becomes their whole personality. We speak of the bigger crimes, as i said earlier, but it is this type of content that plants the seeds, especially in the age of social media, that grow into this huge tree of hatred, the fruits of which are the deeds we are comparing this whole conundrum with. I do not care what Ranveer said in particular and how the state reacted to it. I am extremely satisfied with the fact that at least now the creators will be a little responsible as to how and what they offer as content. Because whether you agree or not, there is a line. This line lies between what is said in a room and its susceptibility to being criticised and what is kept for public consumption. It is sure about choice, but majorly of who produces and offers and very less about who consumes. This by no way undermines or belittles any and everything that is wrong in this land.
