Incapable premature managers. How do you deal with them?
Graduated from a top tier MBA school and got placed in P&G India. Thought i landed a sweet deal but reality seems different. There are a few brand directors (for context - kind of the CMO for their brands and report to brand business heads) who have a mere 4-5 years work ex post their MBA who somehow do not understand what it takes to manage people. It's an up or out system at p&g and all they are worried about is their own visibility and blowing up a minor task as if its a major achievement. The newly joined ones like me (have previous work ex before mba) wonder whether to look up to them seeking guidance or just do whatever work is being thrown. Neither do they have the balls to stand up to their bosses nor do they inspire. The company that boasts about their work culture clearly missed to train the premature managers and transform them from workers to managers. Sigh. How do you deal with them? And these are people who are from top tier b-schools who are great employees but bad managers without clarity or priorities except for saving their own ass.4
