If religion was made to for positive reasons and Hope, Why is there so many Crimes related to it, Caused because someone didnt follow it properly etc?

It gives hope that someone out there wants something good to happen for you etc. But then Why are so many people harmed because of it? There are so many constricting rules in religions too, like fasting. its so unhealthy. Is there another reason perhaps as to why people believe in God? then answer this because my post assumes that people believe in God for good reasons. I mean no hate towards anyone, Im just curious to know what people who believe in god think about such crimes which take place in the name of religion. **SORRY FOR THE TYPO IN THE TITLE.
