I had visited Agra 20 years ago around 2005 and I was although around 8 years old that time still I was surprised how dirty the city was . Especially area around Taj Mahal . The entry to Taj Mahal was very disorganised , entry and exit was not smooth , we had to take off shoes , area around Taj Mahal was very dirty. Like very dirty . I have seen many cities . Have travelled very extensively in India and still 2005 Agra was one of the most dirty cities I had experienced in my whole life . The Yamuna bank at the end of taj . Whole Yamuna was dirty . Like even stench used to come from that . Visiting again 20 years back I had low hopes but I was surprised. Clean wide roads , even metro stations , there are now proper check in stations with turnstiles , multiple entries from multiple gates , , now no need to take off shoes, Yamuna looks more clean now and no bad stench comes when standing near bank side of taj , smooth entry and exit , mostly very helpful locals . Even Taj Mahal was renovated a lot with raised platform for photos . Had a great experience.
