Is Google AdSense still relevant and can it be used to earn living?

I remember the early internet where people were using adsense to make money and using it as full time job. They were publishing blog content and various other content and put Google ads to it. 

Do you think Google adsense is still viable option to earn living as SEO is now dead. You can't just publish content and rank.
