The grid pattern roads work more efficiently if the city overall is also in rectangular shape. In this case, it seems like they intentionally left this arc of an area. There are no mountains obstructing and no river, canal or road is forming any natural boundary either. Have you guys noticed that now at most fast food eateries dishes are almost 200rs +, Even for simple items like French fries it's close to that. How does everyone afford it.
