there’s a house next to mine that nobody talks about. not abandoned, not rented - just *there.* the windows are always shut, the gate chained, but not locked. it’s been like that for years. nobody comes. nobody leaves.
but at night, the lights turn on. dim, flickering, like old tube lights struggling to stay alive. and i hear things. **every night.** screams. muffled cries. sometimes a deep, raspy choking sound, like someone gasping for air. other times, the sound of furniture being dragged, objects being knocked over.
